Tel Aviv Winter: What to Wear and What to Pack

If you’re coming to Tel Aviv, figure out what to wear and pack for the cooler season. The Tel Aviv winter is mild compared to many places, but still chilly.

Tel Aviv Winter: What to Wear and What to Pack

Unlike in most countries, Tel Aviv winter can be nice and warm.  Even when it gets cooler, the weather in Tel Aviv in wintertime is relatively mild, between 40 and 60° Fahrenheit.  If you’re wondering what to pack and what to wear for a Tel Aviv winter, consider bringing a range of things: pieces for warmer weather and a thicker fleece jacket for cooler weather.

As far as modesty goes, Tel Aviv seems quite similar to other western cities.  Only in religious areas or fancy establishments do people really dress up.  If you plan on visiting a religious site while in Tel Aviv or the surrounding regions, remember to cover your arms and your legs.  Even if you’re a man, you’ll need to avoid wearing shorts.

Since Tel Aviv has the amenities of most western cities, you should be able to find anything that you need from clothing to cosmetics.  If you like shopping, you’ll love the artsy fashion pieces available in Tel Aviv.  Known for being modest and natural in dress, Tel Aviv women dress up while dressing down.  Jewelry tends to be made of natural materials, wood, clay beads, and shell pieces.

Though you’ll find anything you need in Tel Aviv, it’s smart to bring your own medications or any pharmaceuticals you might need.  Each country has its own names for generic drugs and you might find it difficult to buy exactly what you’re looking for.

Use common sense while packing for Tel Aviv and remember these following 8 items so that you’ll have a hassle-free stay in the Tel Aviv winter.

1. Sweater or warm fleece jacket.  As mentioned earlier, the Tel Aviv winter has cooler temperatures and occasional rain.  Make sure to bring an extra layer to stay warm. If you tend to run cold, bring some extra layers in addition to a fleece or sweater.

2.  Raincoat.  Though you might have pristine weather while in Tel Aviv, it’s always smart to bring a raincoat when wondering what to pack.  Winter in Tel Aviv can get very stormy, though the temperatures don’t ever get too cold.  Play it safe and bring a raincoat.

3. Umbrella.  In case of rain, it’s always good to have an umbrella handy for winter in Tel Aviv.  Don’t worry about packing a huge umbrella.  A travel umbrella should suffice for winter in Tel Aviv.

4. Small pack for day trips.  You’ll find many great day trips outside of Tel Aviv. Whether making a drive to the Dead Sea or Eilat, you’ll want a small pack for a special excursion.

5. Sunglasses.  Most likely, you’ll need sunglass even in winter in Tel Aviv.  Everyone wears sunglasses in Tel Aviv.  They are both practical and stylish.

6.  Sunscreen.  If you need your sunglasses, you’ll most likely need sunscreen to avoid stray rays.  Keep in mind while considering what to pack that Tel Aviv has a warmer winter than most places and even in cooler temperatures you’ll get exposure from the sun.

7.  Bathing suit.  Locals like to swim all year.  You’ll love getting to swim in the dead of winter on one of Tel Aviv’s warm winter days.

8.  Sturdy, warm shoes.  Bring comfortable shoes for exploring the city of going on hikes.  If you experience rainy weather, you’ll want a pair of winter shoes to keep your feet warm.

Pack enough to keep you warm, but don’t worry, if you forget something, you’ll most likely be able to find it somewhere in Tel Aviv.
