The DocAviv Festival
During the DocAviv Festival from May 3-12, 2012, Israeli and international premier documentary films are screened. This international event occurs each spring in Tel Aviv to promote a wide range of experiences and perspectives through film.
During the DocAviv Festival May 3-12, 2012, documentary films from both Israeli and global filmmakers are screened throughout Tel Aviv. Organized under the umbrella of DocAviv NPO as its main project, this independent film event is one of Israel’s leading cultural events and one of the top and highly respected film festivals in the world.
Thousands of domestic and international filmmakers and prominent visitors in the industry attend Tel Aviv’s International Documentary Film Festival, where the competition films have been chosen from more than 70 entries. There are four categories: entrants from Israeli, international, a student, and a youth film competition, and during the grand ceremony on the last evening of the DocAviv festival, the winners are announced and awarded their prizes.
Documentaries showcased at the DocAviv Film Festival largely consist of topics with social agendas, purposely presenting an international range of opinions absent from mainstream films. The goal in viewing these original documentary films is to encourage open dialogue and debate amongst the visitors.
During the festival held every May, the final screenings of the winning documentaries take place throughout city at the Tel Aviv Cinemateque, Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) building, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and Tel Aviv Port.
In addition to the competition documentary screenings, the DocAviv Festival also includes other events, such as multidisciplinary discussions; master classes and workshops with international filmmakers; other special film screenings not in competition including midnight previews of alternative films.
In the last few years, the DocAviv Festival has also featured a special DocAviv touring project, taking the Israeli documentary films for special screenings throughout Israel and the world.
