Casual Dining in Tel Aviv

Mar 12 , 2011

Sometime the best food can be found at restaurants that don't empty your wallet. Learn about the best spots for casual dining in Tel Aviv.

Lehem Erez: This is a classic sandwich and salad joint. It's the perfect place to start tasting the casual dining Tel Aviv has to offer. That's not to say there is anything ordinary about the ingredients used in the delicious menu items. Gourmet bread, cheese, vegetables, and homemade dressing are the foundation of this finger food delight. The menu ranges from traditionally simply sandwiches to some hefty and creative choices. Some of the specialty sandwiches include smoked salmon with aioli, lamb kabobs on Lebanese focaccia, and egg and avocado on Russian bread. Don't forget to indulge in a melt in your mouth brownie before you leave this place. Your trip is remiss without it.

Dr. Shakshuka: This kosher casual dining in Tel Aviv has no restrictions on flavor. Its long shared tables and friendly staff make for a comfortable atmosphere to enjoy some real ethnic food. Some of its influences include North Africa and the Middle East. Their most popular dishes consist of stuffed vegetables, grilled lab patties, and even kishke (North African style intestine stuffed with rice and meat.) With each big meal, you get a side of salad and pita. Fresh bottomless lemonade is the drink of choice to wash down these tasty treats.

Orna and Ella: If you're vegetarian looking for some quality casual dining in Tel Aviv, this is the place for you. The Orna and Ella café is on Sheinkin Street, just a few blocks away from The Galileo Hotel, and has a mom and pop feel. The scent of warm pastries, home brewed espresso, and their famous sweet potato pancakes make up the aroma of this stylish spot. The list of sweets is accompanied with a short menu of carefully chosen salads and sandwiches. There is even something for your friend who just may have more of a carnivorous spirit. The young and beautiful Israeli wait staff does its best to cater and help the out-the-door line moving along.

Giraffe Noodle Bar: This Asian inspired cuisine is served to sidewalk tables on a sunny day and is a great alternative to a dark sushi bar. They feature traditional grub such as gyoza, Asian salads, and fresh sushi. If you're looking for a noodle fix, you are in the right place and have various different choices. There are specific noodle dishes descending from Japan, China, or Thailand. To change it up a little and add a touch of elegance, treat yourself to a delectable French style dessert.

Spaghettim: Not enough noodles? Get your chance to have casual dining in Tel Aviv inspired from the heart of Italy. This place could give the Italians a run for their money. It features over 50 different kinds of sauces. If you are a "plain eater," they will have your classic carbonara. However, if you're feeling a little more adventurous, go for one of their scrumptious spaghetti creations. A favorite of the locals is the olive oil based sauce with chunks of fresh moist chicken mixed with lemon, garlic, and dill. What better way to end your meal than with an Italian treat? Say "ciao" to gelato, al dente spaghetti with dark chocolate, and much more.

If you're planning to try most of these casual dining spots in Tel Aviv, you might be able to splurge a bit on your hotel room. If you want to go really big, The Dan Tel Aviv is one of the best five star hotels in the city.
