Markets and Shopping in Tel Aviv

Jan 15 , 2011

For a nice diversion, check out the markets and shopping in Tel Aviv!

As a tourist destination and cosmopolitan metropolis, Tel Aviv is home to many great cultural attractions. It has fantastic art, great restaurants, and interesting museums. That’s great and we highly recommend that you experience all of these aspects of the city, but sometimes travelers just need a diversion from cultural riches for a shopping excursion instead. In Tel Aviv, you’re in luck. It’s location on the Mediterranean Sea places it in the epicenter of Italian and Greek fashion influence, allowing you to find the latest fashions in clothing in jewelry. Tel Aviv is also home to many markets, which are perfect for window shoppers, curious tourists, and bargain hunters. The markets and shopping in Tel Aviv offer a nice opportunity to relax and mingle with travelers and locals alike.

Shopping Malls

For a traditional shopping mall experience, take a stroll through the Opera Tower and the Dizengoff Center Shopping Mall. The Opera Tower is an upscale mall by the sea that is conveniently located near the Ha-Yarkon Street hotel district. It houses many cafes and shops, and it has developed into a fashion center. If for nothing else, come check out its dazzling architecture, as well as the nearby Allenby Street stores. Dizengoff Center is an enormous indoor shopping mall, and it is reminiscent of many multi-storied malls in America. It has many famous American stores and eateries, which makes it popular with local teenagers. Traveler tip: if you come to Dizengoff Center early on a Friday, there’s a good chance you’ll find a young designer’s bazaar on the first floor.

Top Designers

For the truly fashion conscious, we recommend Kikar Ha Medina in the northern part of the city. It is a large square filled with top international and Israeli fashions. The northern section of town is also home to other designer showrooms, featuring everything from custom clothing to swimwear.

Local Markets

If you’d rather get a taste of what the local street markets have to offer, check out Carmel Market. It is the largest street market in Tel Aviv, and you’ll be able to find practically anything at the lowest prices in the area. If you find yourself cooking during your stay, come here for the freshest selection of produce, meats, and cheeses. The Flea Market in Jaffa is another great choice, and here you’ll find all kinds of secondhand goods, including antique furniture.

Art

Even though you might find yourself tired of looking at art, there’s still a chance that you’ll feel inclined to buy some. If so, take a walk through the Gordon Street district. The entire street and many of its cross streets are lined with galleries.

The markets and shopping in Tel Aviv feels familiar yet foreign at the same time, and this mix of emotions makes it a very popular activity amongst tourists. Check out what Tel Aviv’s markets and stores have to offer, and you may find yourself leaving with your new favorite clothing item.
